I've always found it more challenging to subtract materials in making a piece of art than I have in adding things. It's probably the chief reason, besides sheer beauty, that I hold carving in such high regard. So, when I found David Esterly's site, I knew I'd have to post about it. This guy is a true craftsman that has a healthy respect for the past, but also manages to create something totally fresh. Beautiful stuff. link

Wow - I just took a look at David's site. his work is incredible. I found another carver recently, Jay Dimick. His work is not as intricate as David's but it is definitely worth a look. Jay's blog is http://woodelfburlart.blogspot.com
