Cartographic - The Work of Shannon Rankin

I'm absolutely digging these map deconstructions by artist, Shannon Rankin. I don't know exactly what it is about maps (potential?), but I always love pieces that remix them into new shapes and textures. See the whole series here.

  1. Oh my I am having kittens, they are so beautiful. There is a crispness, and cleaness to both these works, and maps in general. I think you can be drawn to visual structure :)

  3. Those are so neat! I love the one on her site where she cuts out all but the roads.

  5. I love the Dude Craft blog and I appreciate art in its many forms, but I'm a geographer and I love the beauty of a map on it's own. It already is art. I hate to see it lose its original intent. By the way, is art about art meta-art?
