Ryuta Ida's Book Alterations

I know there's a raging debate about whether one should slice, dice, grind, or otherwise alter books in the name of art. I have mixed feelings, but generally come down on the pro-art side of the whole thing. Besides, it's not like people are taking X-Acto knives to first editions of Walden. I'm sure all the books harmed in this process had it coming to them.

Which, brings us to these amazing book alterations by Japanese artist, Ryuta Ida that I found over at Upon A Fold this morning. Mostly, when I see book alterations and paper sculpture, I can sort of figure out how the artist might have gone about it, but I confess, some of Ryuta's stuff has me scratching my a good way.
