Michael Jackson vs. Mr. Bean

Michael Jackson vs Mr. Bean from Pascal Blais Animation Studio on Vimeo.

This video I found over at Colossal this morning by Pascal Blais Studio, brought a huge smile to my face. A good way to start the week.

Intriguing Geometry - Turner Collective Plywood Chair

I have a thing about plywood furniture. Anyone who can take a characterless piece of sheetgoods and turn it into something that's beauty matches its function, is okay with me. Of course, this kind of stuff isn't for everybody, but I'm digging it.

Kyle Chin's Longboard Ride

My friend JR posted this sweet video on FB this morning and it's so beautifully shot, and the riding is so amazing, I couldn't resist a post. Speaking of longboarding, I'm sure you've noticed that Maki Longboards has come on as the newest sponsor of DudeCraft. You can visit Erik and his amazing, rolling creations here.

Robot MIce

Aaron Ristau emailed me yesterday about his bitchin' new collection of wireless robot computer mice. Who wouldn't want to have one of these sitting next to their keyboard? So cool. Hat tip, Aaron. Amazing stuff. You can buy your own here, while they last.

Friday

LEGO Ukulele

Ross Crawford is my new hero. Having combined two of my favorite things, LEGOs and Ukuleles, into one, glorious, playable instrument. Good going Ross! Check out a video and more over at Gizmodo.

Floating Dog

There is no reason for this post other than that I love this photo by Erik Johansson.

I'm liking the style of multimedia artist, Hush. Combining street art and traditional techniques, the resultant mix turns out to be pretty intriguing, wouldn't you say?

LEGO Bike

The mad geniuses at Brickapolis Sean Kenney is the mad genius behind this life-sized LEGO bicycle build. Pretty incredible, eh? This from Sean:
"I'm Sean Kenney, the artist that created this LEGO bike at a public event earlier this month.

I've explained more about the sculpture, why I created it, how kids helped, and have a lot more photos on my web site.

... And as for "how many prototypes" ... just one! I made a half-scale bike (3 feet long) to wrap my head around the physics of it all before creating the full-size one at the event."

note: My profuse apologies to Sean for misattributing someone else as the creators of this awesome machine. Glad I could put things right.

Wednesday

The Meticulous Ms. Nix

Big thanks to Rachel for sending over her fantastic interview with photographer and miniature diorama artist, Lori Nix. As you know, I love anything miniature and these are some of the most detailed and fascinating pieces I've seen. Head on over to Wonder How To to read the interview.

I Can't Make You Love Me

Yeah, it's not a craft post, but DAMMIT, that's my friend and music teacher, Phil right there, playing piano on the Jimmy Fallon show while Justin absolutely slays this Bonnie Raitt classic. Exciting!

Laser Etched Skate Decks

Joshua Smith turned out these amazing looking, laser etched pieces for a group show in San Francisco at the beginning of this month. Here's one of those times I still wish I lived there. I would have liked to have seen that show. Love the owl, especially.

Cobbled Together - The Gucci Loafer

As much as I'm not a fan of Gucci, it's still interesting to see the process behind what has become one of the most iconic shoes of all time. More pics at A Continuous Lean.

Giant Dice Portrait

You should pop over to Colossal to read the touching story behind this massive dice portrait of artist, Tobias Wong who passed away last year. MOre pics and a time lapse of the installation at the link.

Spock Quilt

No, this isn't turning into a sci-fi crafts blog. I just happen to be running into a wealth of geeky crafts lately. Hat tip to Mary for this one! Quilt long and prosper!

Farm Punk Furniture

I think that when you see an elegant, finished piece that has been built from reclaimed parts, you don't always appreciate how difficult it is to combine these disparate scraps and make them look like they belong together. Unite Two Design is pretty handy at it, I'd say.

Monday

One-Inch R2D2 Cross Stitch

Yes folks, that is a one inch cross stitch featuring everybody's favorite droid made by Liz, who runs Dragonfly Lotus Designs and is making a needle art inchie a day. Amazing job.

Hat tip to @NoahScalin for tweeting this.

Gigantic LEGO Star Wars Diorama

Jay Hoff went and built himself a massive recreation of the arrival of Emperor Palpatine on the second Death Star from Return of the Jedi...out of LEGOs! 388 mini-figs and 30,000 pieces went into this baby. Yowza!

Hydroponic Wino-Gardening

Genius little idea here. Cut a wine bottle in half, invert the top section, add clay pebbles, water and seeds, and...Bam! Instant hydroponic windowsill herb garden. Nicely done.

Handmade Longboards to Surf the Street

I got a nice email from Erik Maki, owner of Maki Longboards yesterday that contained a link to his very cool shop. Maki's designs immediately stirred up the design lust in me and I began dreaming of owning a whole set. I was loving the references to the classic surfboards of the 50s and 60s and the early skateboards I remember from childhood by makers like G&S. Very, very sweet.

Saturday

Barrier Bench

Check out this genius traffic barrier bench that I found over on Recyclart this morning. So simple and yet, I probably never would have thought of it. It even looks pretty comfortable.

Friday

Wine Barrel Furniture

There's nothing I like better than some fine looking oak, when it comes to wood, so naturally I'm digging this elegant set of pieces by California builders, Stil Novo. One of the nicest examples of re-use I've seen in some time.

Q Art

Digging artist, Scott Blake's large scale pieces made from bar codes and QR codes. Viewers can interact with these pieces by scanning the codes with their smart phones and get biographical information, film, and discographies. Sweet.

Pick Punch

It's no secret that I have a thing for crafty gear like button makers, hole punches and the like, so it's only natural that the Pickmaster Plectrum Punch would be on my acquisition list. Sure, I don't even play with a pick, but it's a pick punch! C'mon, Who wouldn't want this thing?
