Star Wars Remix
I haven't been this excited about a site launch in a minute! Household items made into Star Wars ephemera. Yes! The inaugural post is by your friend and mine, skull-a-day's Noah Scalin. Can't wait to see this site develop.

Type Doc
Sweet little typography doc by PBS. If you know very little about type, this is a nice, six minute introduction. If you know a lot about type, well, it's six minutes to geek out as usual.

Held in Motion
Here's a fascinating piece of stop motion featuring 500 people in 100 seconds holding thousands of photographs. A movie within a movie, within a movie. Nice idea!

Incredible "Woven" Images
Tripped across the gorgeous work of Korean photographer, Seung Hoon Park this morning as I was clicking my way across the interwebs. Fascinating stuff. Thanks to Christopher over at Colossal for digging this up. Another testament to his impeccable curation.
Dogpatch Patch
Another missive from the Left Coast...the historic Dogpatch (best name ever) district of San Francisco now has its own morale patch, thanks to those clever kids over at Triple Aught Design. The velcro-backed, supremely awesome Pirate Dog patch is available through their website, here. At a paltry six bucks, why shouldn't you be rocking one of these immediately?

Hardtail Lobster Bike
During a cooking exhibition at the Fuzhou Hotel in Fujian Province, artist Huang Mingbo constructed a pair of these crustacean choppers out of five cooked lobster shells. As you can imagine, almost everything else at the exhibition took a back seat to Mingbo's creation. You can read a horribly pun-laden account of the whole thing here. Hat tip to Geraly for the linkage!
Saturday
Juicy Vintage Restoration
Portland based design firm, Von Tundra, recently completed this sweet restoration/ conversion of a 1969 Dodge Chinook, turning it into the Northwest's hippest juice bar and lounge. So much more character than your run of the mill food truck. Nice work!

Single-Fin Wooden Surfboard
SINGLE FIN 6'2'' // BOARDS from losgogo on Vimeo.
We'll, I landed safely in California last night and the weather, as usual, is bloody freezing. (insert Mark Twain quote here). Nonetheless, I thought I should share something surf related, due to my change in geography. To that end, I dug up this cool process video of those crazy kids from Los Gogo, building a wooden surfboard by hand. It may not be the prettiest thing ever to come out of a garage, but it has a charm that's hard to resist.

Cork Portraits
I've featured lots and lots of re-use projects that involve corks in the past, even portraits, but I think Scott Gundersen's "Grace" is a real stand out. One, because it's executed well, but most importantly, because he chose the right photograph to work from.

Alphabet in Stone
Digital Alphabet in Stone - Dom Hans van der Laan/Autobahn 2011 from autobahn on Vimeo.
Type nerd alert! If you don't love letters and how they're made, you can skip down to the next post. However, if you love some type (you know who you are), definitely take the time to check out this video. Projects like this are what keeps me going. The fact that somebody cares enough to preserve a part of our design heritage all but brings me to tears.

Paper Peacock
Wow! Just found The Makerie after reading about them on the Upon a Fold blog. Stunning work on their Behance page, including this beautifully realized peacock named, The White Omar.

Cutting it up on the Wheels of Steel
Analog Vinyl Sampling from Ishac Bertran on Vimeo.
Like audio puzzle pieces, these sliced, mixed, and reassembled chunks of vinyl produce surprising results. Who knew that Paul Anka and Little John could sound so good together?
Now, not to put down the artist, Ishac Bertran's intended output, but I'd just love to have a few of these dissected records to frame and hang on the wall, wouldn't you?

I'll Be Back - Ahnolds finest moments in film
Well, I'm headed back to California for a week and in celebration of my homecoming I thought I'd feature these three short animations of the governator's (well, ex-governator's) "finest moments" in film, rendered in pen and highlighter markers. Whoo-wee, that's a whole lot of cells to be drawing. Check out the shorts here.

LEGO Rolls out the Robie House
Okay, blockheads...big news on the snap-together architecture front: LEGO is set to deliver the next design in their series of great buildings sometime next month. Frankie gets tapped again for this piece in the series, featuring the prairie-modern classic that is only slightly less famous than Falling Water. Hey LEGO, can we get some Greene and Greene next? Maybe the Gamble House? I'd be the first in line!
Sunday
Door Table
It was a door, now it's a table. Lots of these floating around, of course. The difference here, I think, is the legs. Pretty groovy for a DIY effort. Full instructions over at Start Woodworking. Get busy!
Saturday
Amazing Porcelain Skulls
It's not fair to make my eyes pop out of my head on a sleepy Saturday morning. However, that's exactly what happened when I peeped Katsuyo Aoki's porcelain skulls over at IIHIH. I mean, even if you aren't into skulls, who wouldn't want one of these? Can't wait until @NoahScalin gets a look at these.
Friday
Tower of Post-Its
We've seen stop motion projects and sketching contests, but I think this is the first time we've seen 3M's mighty invention assembled into honeycombs and used to create a structurally sound installation. Ooh, neon-y. Nice job by Tato Architects.

Whisked Away
I'm a sucker for anything that casts an interesting shadow, so I was delighted to see Sebastien Demeulenaere's use of an old, industrial whisk in making this stunning ceiling lamp. Ooh, pretty.

Whale Tissue Caddy
Usually, I am firmly against anything that is referred to as a "caddy" unless I'm playing golf, in which case, you know, tally ho! I am, however, strangely smitten by this whale tissue caddy by Gnome Sweet Gnome. Just add your own orange birds and you'll have the perfect accessory for when you're shedding a few tears over Twitter service interruptions.

Bobby Brazes a Bike
My friend Robert is one of those guys who starts with an enthusiasm like bicycles, banjos or sausage making and tackles it from the top down. First, he tries his hand at assembling something from bought parts and before you know it, he's milling his own steel and laser cutting drop-outs. Well, almost. At any rate, this is a guy who loves to get his hands dirty and by the look of his new bike frame, you can tell that there are no shortcuts or half-measures involved. Hat tip, Roberto. You are a man's man. More of the album here.

Gizmon Fisheye Lens for iPhone
With more and more accessories for the iPhone, making it the world's smallest production studio, I wouldn't be surprised if the term "iMovie" became synonymous with phone-filmed, feature length epics. If that's where we're going, the Gizmon Fisheye Lens for iPhone seems like a good tool to have along for the ride. Yours for $129.

HIgh Tide
Found this shot by Joeri Bosma over at Colossal and immediately fell in love with it. Flipping through the associated Flickr stream, it's easy to see all the hallmarks of an emerging talent. There's an uneven mix of shots with an absolute gem mixed in here and there. It will be interesting to watch the progress of this young photographer from the Netherlands.

Eric Daigh - Pushing It.
It's been a long while since I checked in with Eric Daigh and his push-pin pieces and, I must say, the man has upped his game in both quality and scale. Impressive.

8 Hours in Brooklyn
8 Hours in Brooklyn from Next Level Pictures on Vimeo.
Some incredible slo-mo film work here. Some of the comments on Vimeo complain of lingering shots, but hey, if I was renting a camera capable of shooting 2,564fps, I might take my time too. Especially if I was renting it at a day rate of $800.

Get Smashed
Set Nagelberg is the man behind these gorgeous recycled fused glass bowls that he makes in his kiln. I don't suppose I could do this in my oven. Sigh.
